Hitachi Consulting recruited me to lead the visual design of the user interface of its website transformation in 2017. This only made sense as I previously developed a new visual identity for the company. However, with limited resources under the pressures of a six month timeline, I quickly became integrated into the entire experience design process. I participated in persona definition, customer journey mapping, prototyping, responsive design, user testing, and collaboration with development.
"What Derick has done on this project is nothing short of amazing. His ability to slide into the team, pick up the concepts and execute on them has been great. His eye toward details and understanding how elements fit into the marketing department’s vision was wonderful. Derick is a more than a just a member of this team, from the initial concepts to the very late nights and early mornings he has out preformed the expectations every step of the way. “

Persona definition
Hitachi Consulting had two primary goals for the new website. One, recruiting potential employees and two, converting sales leads for Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. I developed the components, pages, and user flows with these key persona groups central to each design choice.
prototyping
With key personas in mind, I developed 44 unique landing pages consisting of over 100 web components whose usability aligned to the goals of the business while remaining functional and beautiful across desktop, tablet, and mobile browser sizes.
Responsibilities
Persona definition
User flow creation
Responsive wireframe
User testing
I tested each sprint of development to ensure that the functionality and visual design was being translated from initial business requirements to the actual web parts. Using a defect logging system and working directly with developers, I reconciled all defects prior to publishing.
